The Center of Excellence in Particle Technology (CEPT)

TPTC and PTMP have recently merged their activities into a Center of Excellence in Particle Technology in CU. The objectives are to specialize in research investigation in and generate fundamental knowledge in PT, in order to design and develop new products and apparatuses in Thailand to reduce the reliance on imported equipment, including the developmentof relevant pollution control technology.

The Center of Excellence in Particle Technology has officially been recognized by Chulalongkorn University under CU’s 5-year TJTTP-JBIC Scheme. As mentioned above, since 2002 CEPT has been designated as a member of MTEC Technology Network (Particle Technology and Particulate Materials Unit) and received annual subsidy from both CU and MTEC.

MaDParT 2004

Objectives of CEPT

1. To carry out research and development of products and processes as well as the application and creation of knowledge in Particle Technology and Nanomaterials
2. To produce human resources at the Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. levels as well as researchers with core expertise in Particle Technology and Nanomaterials
3. To disseminate and transfer Particle Technology as well as provide technology consultations and technical services concerning Particle Technology to interested industrial parties
4. To support and collaborate with related organizations in and outside Thailand in order to strengthen the capability of the industry in Thailand to stand on its own and to be competitive with other countries
5. To survey the current situation and future trend of Particle Technology, including Nanotechnology, in the developed countries

Thai Powder Technology Center (TPTC)

In 1993 the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, set up a center to promote Powder Technology in Thailand with strong support from The Association of Powder Process Industry and Engineering, Japan (APPIE) and The Society of Powder Technology, Japan (SPTJ).

Thirty-two TPTC-supporting corporate members of APPIE donated over 20 pieces of powder technology apparatuses and provided annual subsidy for TPTC’s operation without any string attached. Simultaneously, SPTJ has agreed to render technical cooperation and dispatch experts to promote technology transfer and hold seminars. In 1998 a sister Association of Thai Particle Industries was set up as a separate legal entity.

Missions of TPTC

1. Develop, promote and disseminate Particle Technology in the industrial and educational/ research sectors of Thailand
2. Organize technical seminars, including joint international meetings with foreign organizations in order to transfer and promote Particle Technology from the fundamental level to advanced level
3. Join heads with other organizations and institutions in organizing Particle Technology seminars in Thailand
4. Collaborate with the industrial sector and/ or external/ internal organizations in implementing research and development projects
5. Provide experimental and testing services concerning Particle Technology, including technical advice to CU students and the public

Particle Technology and Material Processing Laboratory (PTMP)

Soon after TPTC was established, Dr. Wiwut et al. set up PTMP in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, to generate new knowledge and train new researchers as well as carry out R&D focused on Particle Technology and its applications for supporting Thailand’s diverse industries.

Thai Association for Particle Industries (TAPI)

In 1998, TPTC cooperated with a number of Thai academic institutions and corporations in establishing Thai Association for Particle Industries (TAPI), the first legally registered non-profit association for the promotion of Particle Technology in Thailand. Its stated mission includes technical consultation, research implementation, and presentation/ publication of research results as well as promoting technological advancement, standardization system and standard methods in PT industries. In addition, TAPI closely cooperates with TPTC in the organization of seminars, symposia and exhibitions.

Particle Technology and Particulate Materials Unit

Particle Technology and Particulate Materials Unit (PTPM), Chulalongkorn University, was established as the operating unit of Center of Excellence on Particle Technology through the combination of the activities of Thai Powder Technology Center (TPTC), College of Engineering , and Particle Technology and Material Processing (PTMP) Research Laboratory, Department of Chemical Engineering.

PTPM will receive several major pieces of research equipment from Thailand-Japan Technology Transfer Project (TJTTP) of Chulalongkorn University and financial support from MTEC. Our expertise or core competence may be classified into the following three sub-areas

  • Development of Particulate Materials
  • Separation Technology
  • Computer Modeling and Simulation

Special seminar and internal meeting

Objectives
1. To carry out research and development of products and processes as well as the application and creation of knowledge in Particle Technology
2. To produce human resourses at the Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. level as well as researchers with core expertise in Particle Technology
3. To disseminate and transfer Particle Technology as well as provide technical consultations and technical services concerning Particle Technology to interested industrial plants
4. To support and collaborate with related organizations in and outside Thailand in order to strengthen the capability of industry in Thailand to stand on its own and to be competitive with other countries
